UPM(University Putra Malaysia)

The vision of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) is to become a world class university, an internationally reputable community of intellectuals who will make the nation proud for their contributions to scholarly writing and discoveries, and continue to give new meaning to the progress, growth and development of the nation and the world.

UPM has established eight (8) goals to realize its vision.

Each goal has its own specific objectives.

The achievement of each objective depends on the execution of the respective action plan. The eight goals are as follows :

1. To produce quality graduates who are competitive and resilient through lifelong learning;
2. To transform UPM into a renowned research university;
3. To upgrade UPM as a renowned center of learning, agricultural and bio-resources services internationally;
4. To enhance a quality management system that is effective, efficient, transparent and client-friendly;
5. To develop and create excellent human resources and professional environment;
6. To promote an Information and Communication Technology (ICT)culture through e-University;
7. To establish UPM as the Center of Professional Development Services and Continuing Education.

In November 1982, the committee was upgraded to a Board status. Currently the School of Graduate Studies is managing 5,000 post graduate students in the university from 16 Faculties and 9 Institutes, and hope to increase the number to 10,000 by the year 2010.

Education in Malaysia is the most worthwhile experience, and the UPM's School of Graduate Studies is here to assist our graduate students in their pursuit of knowledge.

UPM's School of Graduate Studies is a prestigious institution, rich in heritage of knowledge and research, which offers more than 250 fields of studies.

We provide a balanced academic and programmed to our Master Degree and Doctoral Degree graduate students.

Nowadays, UPM has the highest percentage of academic staffs with PhD qualification among the local universities (IPTAs) in Malaysia.

We also provide a conducive environment for studies with a global perspective; where students from more than 50 countries congregate to obtain invaluable experience here.

UPM began its academic life in 1973 with three founding Faculties and a Division of Basic Sciences.

The first intake of 1,559 students were for the Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Diploma in Home Technology, Diploma in Animal Health and Production, Diploma in Science with Education, and Preliminary Programme.

Currently UPM offers 73 Bachelor's degree programmes, eight Diploma programmes, and 12 Masters and Doctoral programmes.

There are 16 Faculties, eight Centres, six Institutes, two Schools, a University Park and a branch campus in Bintulu, Sarawak.
